"As with any relationship the one between horse/rider and trainer must "click" appropriately. If the trainer doesn't teach in the way the rider can learn or if the trainer has no respect for the rider's horse then you are setting yourself up for failure.
I found my current horse in January of this year and was searching for a new trainer. Hilary's ad caught my eye and the rest is history. Midas had absolutely no dressage/English training what-so-ever and after 2 lessons with Hilary we went into a schooling show. (and we both survived) Since then Midas and I have come far and I am thrilled to have Hilary in our corner. I have great faith in her teaching methods and like the fact that she had no reservation on hopping on Midas and giving him some serious schooling which he desperately needed. Thanks Hilary!"

Hilary Moore is by far the most effective trainer I have ever had! I purchased a new young horse and switched disciplines to dressage and with only 6 months of training with Hilary we've gone from knowing absolutely nothing about dressage to scoring 67% on our first Training Level 1 test! She really engages the riders mind and helps them think through problems so they are better prepared to handle similar issues on their own. She is also very proficient at reading the horse and knowing exactly what it needs to be able to perform the requested tasks. She is always prepared and her communication is phenominal! Hilary truly gives her students an education and not just a lesson.

Darcy Swain & Caper Mozaic “What sets Hilary apart from other trainers, is that she not only is a fabulous trainer, but she is also an excellent teacher. She is the first trainer who has taught me not only how to ride, but also taught me why we are working the movements, the philosophy of the training scale, why tests are laid out in a particular manner, and what judges are looking for in each movement. I feel like I’m not only learning how to ride dressage, but am learning about dressage. It may seem like a subtle difference, but that difference has prepared me and my horse both mentally and physically to consistently perform our best in the ring. I first came to Hilary as an eventer, and our dressage has improved so dramatically that I now pursue both dressage and eventing in tandem!” |

I’d always loved dressage but could never seem to get past Training level and had even slid back to being challenged by riding the walk-trot tests when I found Hilary. That was about a year ago and, wow, what a difference Hilary’s instruction has made in my riding and my horses way of going since then.

We’re now successfully showing at Training level (see my video of my first ride of the season scoring a respectable 63%). And, what is most amazing is that I can actually imagine a day when I might ride at First level – something I never expected to do! It’s all a result of Hilary’s precise, methodical, thoughtful training which she delivers in a kind, patient and supportive way.

Lisa Couturier & Madie Mettam "We never thought we'd find a trainer like Hilary Moore. When we first began working with her, our horses had been off work--one for over a year, the other for nearly six months. Hilary's calm and consistent attention to our geldings brought them back into the swing of things within weeks. Then, our riding lessons began. |
Hilary's expertise and experience is evident in not only her attention to the tiniest details for both rider and horse, but also in her understanding of the "big picture" for each individual rider's goals, weaknesses, and strengths. She's enthusiastic, supportive, and professional; and she's opened up a new world of Dressage for us, after having been involved in hunter-jumper activities for the last four years. Because of Hilary we are now moving forward in our lives with our horses. The change is significant and exciting; and we couldn't be more pleased."

Just a few weeks ago, I spotted a blog post on Dressage Today titled, Perfect Enough. I laughed when I read Hilary’s take on how perfect we dressage riders oftentimes try to be. At least for me, she nailed it. She described how I want to be most of the time and she reminded me of how important it is to focus on finishing my rides feeling content that my horse and I don’t need to be perfect every day, but we can be “perfect enough”. A simple,
As for me, this year I have a new goal while I somehow try to piece together Fourth Level. I will say to myself before each ride “Today is the perfect day to ride perfect enough.”
